i read this, here : -----> http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2...uitar-hero.ars (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/02/activision-hints-at-call-of-duty-subs-less-guitar-hero.ars)

"Call of Duty may be going subscription-based

Activision pointed out that Modern Warfare 2 was the third game in its stable to crack the $1 billion mark in sales, but everyone on the call also seemed to realize that lightning may not strike twice... at least not in these numbers. We know that the series will continue to be released on a yearly basis, but Bobby Kotick also dropped a bomb near the end of the call.

"If you think about the success we've had in other product categories on subscription, you can get a sense of the direction that we want to take that franchise," he said, answering a question near the end of the call. We also were told another Call of Duty game is coming near the end of the year, but that's it for details.

Our thoughts: Activision wants to know how to maximize the money it can make from one of its biggest franchises, and they see Blizzard getting written a paycheck every month due to the World of WarCraft subscription charges. We're not sure how it would work, but it makes sense strategically."

RAWR! totally makes sense from the $ point of view, but for me,.. F##k no! man,.. i like the game, *CoD4 as well... but idk know about having to pay to play it. I mean, I think the Xbox Live thing is a crap rip off too. I mean,.. 20 bucks for 3 months for it,.. idk. I baught a double pack, last Thanks giving, on sale on Black Friday, so 6 months for 20 bucks seemed sweet. but again, I never play much on the xbox much anymore. *the kids do.

And as far a if this happens to MW2 or the next COD game,.. well, they better get dedicated servers or something, cause the servers they have now, SUCK! like, in a middle of a game, Im doing great *or just good,.. and then, BAM, it has to change Hosts. LIKE, F##K, messes meh rhythm and it must suck for everyone else playing too.

IDk,.. I mean,.. just spent $ for a game, (actually a 50 dolla gift card,. so i payed da rest,.. but anyway,...then add a monthly fee to play it,.. RAWR!

I mean, those of you that play WoW,. and such games, can already relate. *maybe. U pay to play it,.. do you think it's worth it ?

At least CSS isnt like that,.. YET!

I agree 100% there chemo. I bitched and refused to let my kids have xbox live for years. They actually have it now but I don't pay for it. Xbox is the biggest piece of crap ripoff there is. Greedy freakin bastards actually charge to use my internet. And don't give me that well they have to pay for server crap either because a random player host the game.

My kids also wanted a wow account I refused I know all you wow players they have updates and new stuff. yes they do but you have to buy the new updates. Well gee counter strike and bf2 have updates. They release new games on a regular basis too no different only I pay for the game then play free.

If enough people would have boycotted xbox live as I did. That whole pay monthly thing would have failed and COD wouldn't even consider charging as they may. I guess making a billion on game sales isn't enough anymore lets just screw them some more by charging them to play a game they paid for.

Well get used to it COD is next BF2, counterstrike and all the rest won't be far behind.

This is crazy I mean come on. I would never buy a game that you had to pay for monthly, hey for those that do that's your choice I just cant justify doing so.As for the game not having dedicated servers... come on i can see when it comes to consoles but PC gaming? As long as people keep buying these games and letting them get away with this the companies will continue doing it.

1 of 2 things will happen.

1) It will backfire in their faces. The game wont sell. They will blame it on something other than the real problem.

2) They will loose 50% of their userbase and post a fake sales report saying it outsold every previous COD by large margins like they did on Modern Warfare 2.
