I upgraded the software an entire version number. It's not an increment increase, it's an entire version. We went from 3.6.8 to 4.0.1. It's not just minor changes or bug fixes we're talking about here; it's nearly an entire rewrite of the software. Ninety-nine out of a hundred customizations, addons, layouts, and modifications do not work with the new version. It will take some time for them to be rewritten or ported to the new version.

I like constructive criticism. I don't mind negative comments if they have anything constructive to them. Though negative and nonconstructive comments, such as yours (Die), I dislike. I'm open to all feedback as I'm used to it as a web developer. I'm only bothered by yours in particular because I'd expect more from you than just a useless negative comment.

If you had taken the time to read my post, I stated that I'm going to be actively maintaining and working off what we have right here. At this point, there's no turning back.

its nice to see the forums updated.One thing i noticed was the text in a post somtimes goes across the screen as normal and other times you type three words and it skips down a line like mine is doing now.As for Die you know he was joking right?

Not sure about this skin. Front forums look ok but new post results are fugly and not sure if its just edits you need to do yet but the options and smilies in the advance reply box need to be stretched across not as they are. Also quick reply has very little options. What about the front page setup? Are we getting that back up with this new update?

Yeah, I personally don't like the skin myself. It's the best I could get for the time being. I'll take care of everything else one by one.

I see what Ice is talking about. I used a quote box to quote him above and you can barely tell. it just looks like I typed it.

A quick update on my life..

Just recently I got into contact with a multi business owner who has business contacts. I was on a job to fix (aka format) his comps for $40/each. Instead of it just being a quick $120, it ended up landing me many jobs as a computer and network engineer and now a company/business owner. I get called for jobs like network setups, cable installation, and even surveillance camera installation. I hire my extended family members with the skills I need -- electrician for wiring, etc. It's fun and interesting. People freak out seeing that it's a 19 year old pulling all the strings. All. The. Time.

idk if anyone has this problem, but when i type a visitor message to anyone, *sense the new forum change. when im typing, the letters are in black ,with the new black background, of the panel of the visitor message thingy itself, i cant see what im typing. uh,.. what can i do to change this ?

That would be do to this skin style. There are a few problems with this skin and I think we will likely be changing it soon.

One way around your particular problem for now chemo is to click the advanced button when typing a visitor message. This will bring up a white typing box like when you post.

Why do you fix things that arent broke?

Im also guessing it would be a good idea for me as a business owner that relies on Windows and Windows coded software to change my servers over to OSX?

The "don't fix things that aren't broke" quote came to my mind right after I hit the final upgrade button. Rather than try to fix the bot problem and implement changes I planned, I figured it'd be best to upgrade to future-proof changes made.

Assuming your question was to make a point.... I understand where you're coming from, it was my mistake to take the jump too soon. And to clear things up, this is more like the upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 except we have to wait for the software (aka addons/mods) to be upgraded or rewritten for the new OS.

It's a real hassle for me, but I'm willing to clean up the mess I've made here. I just need a little more time and I'll take things one step at a time starting with what I believe is top priority.

Upgrading to the latest version isnt going to make the bot problem go away. I gave you a way to fix it. Ive been using that plugin for over a year now with a 99.9% success rate. I know how the bots work 100% and you will never fully stop it. They will conquer all methods. They are now able to get passed the ReCaptcha pics.

I'm aware of the upgrading not making an impact on bots getting passed registration. I believe your method was the image verification addon where you click the image it tells you to?

I could've sworn I installed that addon a while back but maybe that was my imagination. Anyway, as stated, this upgrade was more future proofing than anything else. I just made the mistake of not seeing how much of the previous I could implement on the newer version.

Thanks, though I'll admit it's a sub-par job compared to my other work. This is my first miscalculation on a live site. I need to learn how to deal with it and the negative responses it's going to entail.

My apologies to Ricky and Die if I came off a little rough at reintroduction. I'll step down before I explode here.

The shoutbox on the front page is functional but consider it a temp fix. Apparently the version forums Lurk installed is so new its practically a beta and it has issues. Very little mods yet like shoutboxes and other stuff.

Good job so far guys. A shoutbox and banners its been a while. Don't know if it just me but once you start to look around on the forums the only button to get back to the "home"page is the riot squad at the botttom of the forums or to change it manually in the address bar. You should redirect the top left hand corner Riot squad button to take you to the home page as well.Now to just get rid of the skin....

Ok the skins are finally working!!!!!!!!:ba I have uploaded a few but so far this one looks the best.

We still have a few issues and tweaks the need to be done.

Putting the banner back up and fixing the main page link. My he4ad is a little fried so I will tweak here and there over the next few days.

I want to thank Ricky from THO for helping me get this going. Without him we would still be stuck with that defective skin and no homepage or shoutbox.

Its no problem for me to help. You all have helped THO and i out in much more tighter spots. This is just me helping you all out since youve done so much for me.

Ill check on the banner linking to the homepage for you rev. We also need to get a spam blocker on here. We can wait for more ppl to develop those though and get the best one.

You can turn on user moderation for now and add a mandatory user profile field that they have to answer to determine they are spammers. For example. A math question where the answer isnt in the question

As far as the shoutbox goes. The current one that I have up for the most part works. Do to the way it handles shouts it takes a long time to load and user options are limited. As of the time being they have very few other options for shoutboxes. The current vbulletin version we are using is new and a lot of the mods IE:shoutboxes have not been updated to be compatible with it yet.

So as mods are updated I will add anything I find that may enhance the site including a better shoutbox.:)

Rev look in your header template for a something like this. If not just put this at the very top. Thats where mine was. Since we run diff skins from diff developers for different versions of vbulletin it may not work exactly right.

Thanks Rick! That wasn't exactly it but you got me in the right template and a good idea of what I was looking for.

In this template the variable is called titleimage. That works great the banner now points to the main page.

Yes the inferno shoutbox crashed the same night it was installed.

I was tied up with work the last couple days or I would have check into installing the one I have up now.

Lurk is still around and providing assistance when needed. Most help will be on the backend of systems and will not be noticed by the average user.

I wanted to state publicly that I have and still due appreciate his help.
