I think this situation is drastically differant. Muslims in that country endured genocide and ethnic cleansing because of their religion. I don't blame them for wanting their own country. Their old country tried to exterminate them.

lets also remember that our civil war was a few measly years started more or less over a disagreement of whether it was right to own another person or not, and other financial opportunities. The countries that backed the south didnt do so as much based on some sort of moral backing about their goals as they did a financial opportunity for them, a divided country would mean that france, spain, and england would get back their precious resort areas, guarantee trade agreements, shipping routes, and supply orders, they didnt back the south because they were oppressed or beign persecuted for generations or centuries, they were the persecutors for the most part, how ignorant do you have to be to say you want the south to rise again? You think it would be cool or good for us to be at war on our own soil? you want to get shot at while going to the walmart down the road cus some northerner snuck down to your town with a trunk full of guns? you want your moms office to get shelled with artillery? you want the government to raid your house for supplies? guns? remove your chance to fight? draft you and put your ass on the front line? Really? you want that? and here i thought bears was the redneck

i just want to make it clear that i never said i wanted the south to rise again.. i was offering an example that was closer to home. I am merely pointing out that the genocide was stopped, the people responsible were caught, at least for the most part, and the country wasn't were it was back then. and my point isn't about the validity of Kosovo's independence, it's about the world's interference in yet another nation's political problems. We stopped the genocide, but it's not our job to make sure that every single minority in every single country gets what they want or else they get their own country.

I love independence, and I wish it for everyone, but there is a difference in being free and being the minority and not achieving political victories you want and then getting frustrated and demanding your own government. I don't find it very smart to start splitting every nation into ethnic groups and giving each group their own separate and sovereign government...

I don't think genocide is occuring still, but if it is, then let's stop it again, like we always do.

I think you misread my post/shout and although I find that to not be so uncommon, it is irritating when a post/shout gets taken out of context and I get called ignorant for some falsely discerned reason.

P.S. The civil war was a lot more brutal and destructive than you make it out to be. a few "measely" years? the deadliest war in American history, 620,000 military deaths, not counting any civilians... just a few measely years.. that's all

toast my comment about few measly years, despite the context of those years does pale when compared to most middle east wars and those of asia too, they have countries that have been in a state of civil war since before our nation was settled, there are no definative records for total deaths, as it is hard to count entire villages, generations, and centuries with accuracy. That was the point of my comment.

as for the rest of it, well said, sorry if i hopped on ya too hard, i may have missed some precursor stuff, but it seemed like you were anti involvement and anti independance, your last post was very well said though, sorry again
