View Full Version : Website, this is important
Anyone else here notice the site being a little sluggish? It takes ridiculously long to load and I think it's about time to fix the problem. I know it's just the forums and the main site because the gallery and all other pages hosted on this site have a regular loading time. I'm not sure if it's just me, everyone or just this school. Reason I'm saying this is because I'm writing this up and testing the site from my school.
I've made some changes to the site thus far, but it seems I haven't quite found the culprit yet.
Lurk!

Lurk,
I turned off the vent script again. I know this is one of the culprits. The vent display is gathered from another website then transfered here. I have found a linex version ventrilo querry but I need to get with you on setup. This one would actualy run from our website elimiating the snag waiting for the response of another.
The other thing I have noticed is that its internet explorer that is getting snagged the most. I was talking to Conky when I read this and asked him how it was loading for him. He said it took like 15 seconds and said completed with errors. He uses internet explorer while at the same time I was using BOTH Netscape and Firefox and loading almost instant. I then tried the program I hate "Internet Explorer" and experienced that same delay with errors.
Advise - tell everyone to stop using that piece of junk program called "Internet Explorer" :D
I didn't notice a thing really..

ITs always been somehwhat slow for me... I thought it was due to the shout box, b/c I experienced the same thing during the short time that KHuDA had a shout box set-up... They got rid of it within days, no prblems since... Doubt that is the problem for yall tho... I am always on when I am at work, so I get to share bandwidth with about 90 other computers in the plant..

10 seconds,...got me beat by 1 min 50, gee your fast! :D
aout? I can see that your college education is paying off. Maybe slow down your little fingers or just hunt and pick like the 90% of the world does.( J/k )
sometimes I lag on the server, switching from thread to shoutbox and back to a thread. I thought I might had to do something with cookies so I cleard 'em out and still have issues. maybe it's interent explorer,..i don't know.
Any suggestions?

i am using firefox, check the site MANY times a day while at work. have not seen the site running slow at all, at home i use firefox as well and have not noticed anything either, so working fine for me with firefox from an 8mb cable connection, and a T3+ (possibly OC-3) connection here at work using firefox.
the site has never been slow for me really

it is fine today. If the site is running then you should try to keep up????? Pink, you have the best avatar in all RS, only thing that would make it better is when the chicks running, someone would turn around and headshot her, then you'd have the best avatar in the world

If you put this in an IFRAME it should let the site load independent of the vent info loading, since the HTML is requested seperately.
I know this site uses javascript so maybe look at doing minified versions or at least packed versions, which make the file sizes smaller.
