Now i'm an amd user but there is nothing wrong with intel... Its all about who you talk to. Iv had many pc's with intel and many with amd, iv really seen nothing wrong with both.
Amd seams to be alot cheaper in price so iv found... but who know it could be the times im looking for it something new has come out

I have always favored AMD over Intel. They for a long time had the jump on Intel. Intel being the king for so long got lazy and started raising prices more than they were raising quality. Then AMD basically came out with a processor that outperformed Intels and sold it for less. This gave them a huge jump in market share.
Intel not wanting to lose any more ground and had the money and power to push there research harder than AMD. They have recently jumped back ahead of AMD as far as processor ability. So I would have to give the current edge to Intel as far as processor goes. The choice however is yours according to your budget and exactly what your looking for.

Intel for sure FTW here not only in terms of price, but performance as well. AMD and ATI for that matter, got lazy and are paying the price for it now. before core duo came out, AMD was kicking intel's ass and thats all i would ever use, but now since core duo, and now core 2 duo, intel has had the lead.
Intel E8400 $225

Giga-byte motherboard $89.99

2) 2GB DDR2 800 dual channel kits $47 /ea

then video card of course, depending on your budget, if your looking for something that will last you a while, go with an 8800GTS (G92) 512mb ram at around $280
again like rev said, comes down to how much your looking to spend on a system. 2 facts though, Intel>AMD atm, and Nvidia?ATI atm..
for side by side reviews of processors and video cards, www.hardocp.com is pretty good.
thanks guys. This is what I am looking to build. It looks like intel is winning so far, and motherboards i have no idea where to start as well. I do not want SLI its gay and useless. so I have one 8800gtx already so im fine there and ram 4gigs of whatever. watercooling and 2 of the raptor 150gig harddirves. Im going with a koolance case and watercooling so it will last a long time.

Rain, I would be more than happy to offer any help in your build. I'm only 30 minutes from you so don't hesitate to ask for help. Building a new computer is a lot of fun.
I'll offer my two cents towards your build.
As Rev stated above, Intel has edged out amd on performance. AMD is seriously trying to play catchup right now. For that reason, they are offering products a little cheaper. AMD chips tend to running a bit cooler than intel chips. If your seriously considering liquid cooling it won't matter much.
I do highly recomend NOT buying an "all in one" liquid cooling kit. While they are convienant for the beginer user, they are way over priced. I learned this the hard way. Purchasing the parts needed individually is far less exspensive and offers more versatility to the end user. I've gained quite a bit experience with liquid cooling over the years and would be more than happy to help you. I've collected numerous links over the years to companies that make parts for liquid cooling. When you decide on the motherboard and processor that you want, let me know. I'll help you find the appropriate parts for cooling them.
Lastly, If I was to change anything in my builds, modifications, and experiments on my computer over the years it would be with my choice of case. I've always bought a mid-atx tower. In retrospect I feel that a full size atx would have been better. While there are considerably bigger and less mobile, their benefits far out weigh the cons. Nothing is easier than getting into a full size case when its time to clean, add, repair, modify. Further more, you will get far better cooling. You might think that liquid cooling will solve all of your cooling issues. But that is a common missconception. Liquid cooling subtracts space from within your case. there by, decreasing air flow. even if your planning on liquid cooling everything, you still can't unless you move up to a full size case. there just isnt enough room. You can only put so much stuff in there. A full size case will allow for everything you need.
Good luck, and don't forget to shop around. It will be tempting to drive down to TigerDirect and buy everything lol.
where do you live johnny, i was just at tiger 2 weeks ago and i was ok nothing impressive thought. I have built my own before i just want to do it right this time. And for it to last
see my other posts johnny for the specs that im going to go for!
