I've updated most of my computer, but I really need to renovate my video card. I don't have a bunch of money, otherwise I know exactly what I would get.
Any help out there, I'm in need of a very affordable video card that will suit my needs for autocad and bf2 and css. (all running at the same time... i kid!)

That is an AGP slot card. Do you have a PCI Express slot in your pc or will you need to stay with an AGP?

i am a old school pc user, and have two pc's w/ AGP. i can remember when AGP first came out. before that,..every thing was either pci or just onboard vga. PCI Express, SLI,..all this modern stuff,..i don't know. the womans pc has a pci express. but i haven't really messed with it. here onboard vga display , totally rocks. has something like a 224Mb shared memery w/ wtf ever it goes along with or how it runs. and she has a HD flat screen display,..witch i find,..totally way too wild. i am a old crt monitor user. and i can't play on her pc,..i do not like the way it 'plays"...besides it has Vista and mine has Xp. andf Xp,..produces more fps, than Vista..why ,..i do not know. just what somone told me. wether it is true,..well, let's bout it out here in the threads!!
just my spam on that. thankyou. please come again!

Toast,
There are Agp , PCI and PCI Express slots.
PCI and PCI EXpress slots are different. PCI EXpress came out as an advancement over AGP. Its likely that if you have an AGP slot you don't have a PCI Express slot. Its possible but most motherboards have one or he other not both. Are you sure they are PCI Express and not just regular PCI slots?

no, yeah, they're just regular pci slots. i thought the E at the end of rain's PCIE was a typo. I guess I can't use it then.
so how can you tell if you have a pcie or just a regular old pci (for a different computer that i own.) it's newer and i think it only has pcie but i'm not totally sure.
PCI express is a longer Usually black slot, were as PCI is white and shorter and fatter then Agp is usually brown and set a little further back that the OLD PCI slot. PCI express is the newest thing out right now. It hard to find a quality AGP card now. but they are out there

Well basically all PC's have regular PCI slots and usually more than one. Then if they were built with any gaming ability at all they have either an AGP or PCI Express slot these are usualy color coded. So look in the PC and you should see the bacic pci slots "white" then a different slot. Many but not all motherboard companies like to use blue for PCI Express. A 16x PCIE slot is slightly longer than a standard pci slot.

If i was you, go for the 7600GT, copes with CS:S and BF2. I've had Gothic 3 running on it too, pretty GPU hungry yet it still shone through... :)

i have AGP and im running a BFG 6800 GT OC. IIRC thats pretty much the maximum you can run without AGP being a bottleneck. I need to build me a new computer lol
