Many of you already know we changed the scoring per weapon to better reflect the way we play. The rank program still takes in rank when accessing points but at least now its more based on weapons and knife.
Here is the list of what each guns kill/death multiplier is

The #s next to the weapon above is not the actual points you get but is what is used to multiply whatever points the mani rank program calculates for the kill or death to your score.
As you can see above the knife has a multiplier of 5. This makes knifing more important. It also hurts those ranks whores we get on the server that just go around picking up the biggest weapon and shooting everyone.
On the above list I just increased the point value for nade and glock. This will not take effect until we reboot the server.
I had the nade at 4 and they are really difficult so I increased it to 8.
I increased the glock from 2 to 2.5 being that kato and I both noticed that while on nade level your rank plummets being all you have is a glock and they have ak47's. We may need to increase the glock to 3 but I want to run it at 2.5 to see how much that helps.
Also if you notice because of the way the points go the late joiners that start on a good gun won't rack up points being the real good guns don't score as much.

that's cool. i was wondering,..what is the basic hit/damage limit of each eapon,..and can it be increased and decreased? i hit coolhair with an awp, while in game lastnight. and it said like 93 damage,..chest hit,..but i didn't "kill" him. i figured a one hit kill, on a center mass shot. i did i get spawned with an AWP, with plastic core, ammo or what?(just kidding)....but,..weak weapons,..like the beloved, SCOUT(<---hate SCOUT),...could use a boost of extra juice,...just a mere suggestion though. and,..i see you added set the points for planting/defusing, saving the VIP/kill the VIP,..rescue hostages. that's cool and all,..but..we hardly play bomb/hostie maps. and i have yet,..seen a VIP map on RS server. maybe a few more can be added into server. thankyou for reading, and have a pleasant day!

Ok I have had a few questions about how exactly this calculates points.
First let me explain that there are a few factors I can not alter. They are part of the calculation program what I did was alter the multipliers for each weapon.
So this is how the program actualy works without any altering whats so ever. The points for kill are based on your rank. If every weapon has the same kill multiplier lets say 1 "meaning the points are not multiplied" this is roughly how the points would work.
Old scoring System
Example: Coolhair "ranked 1" vrs speedineed "ranked 466" both have ak47
Coolhair kills speedineed
Coolhair gets + 1
speedineed gets - 1
Same guns
Speedineed kills Coolhair
Coolhair gets -20
speedineed +20
Now that is because Coolhair is higher ranked and expected to kill speedineed and in normal CSS it may work out that Coolhair would kill speedineed 25 to 1 and he would gain points. The problem is this rank system is designed for regular CSS so when the senerio below happens its screws up the rank.
Example: Coolhair "ranked 1" vrs speedineed "ranked 466" Coolhair has a glock and Speed I need has an AK47
Coolhair kills speedineed with glock
Coolhair gets + 1
speedineed gets - 1
Speedineed kills Coolhair with AK47
Coolhair gets -20
speedineed +20
The above demonstrates how once you advance to the tougher weapons being you only get the better weapons for one round you begin to lose points rapidly.
So the only part of the rank I can alter to try and account for the unfair weapon advantage is the mutiplier for the weapons. This way you awarded more points for killing players with tougher weapons it does however have a double edge sword. You will lose more if you are killed by a noob that has a tough weapon.
Example: New scoring system
Both have AK47 with .2 multiplier
Coolhair kills speedineed
Coolhair gets + .2
speedineed gets - .2
Same guns
Speedineed kills Coolhair
Coolhair gets -4
speedineed +4
Coolhair has Glock 3 multiplier and speedineed has AK47 .2 multiplier
Coolhair kills speedineed
Coolhair gets + 3
speedineed gets - 3
Speedineed kills Coolhair
Coolhair gets -4
speedineed +4
At the same token if speedineed is on glock he will get that 3 muliplier.
So it work like this both on glock.
Speedineed kills Coolhair
Coolhair - 60
Speedineed +60
That is were a double edge sword comes in knifes have a multiplier of 5 so although they are the fastest way to rank up they are also the fastest way to lose points if a noob knifes you.
Stop whining and own the dam noobs if you are losing rank then maybe the noobs are killing you.

I really like the new scoring system. I have been able to compete specifically because of it. My KDR has never been high, and still isn't. But I like to knife to skip levels, and the new scoring system rewards the knifing so heavily that I get a real boost in the ranks for taking the chances. Kudos to Rev and Cool on implementing it!

As many have noticed, too, those knife kills are... uh... rank killers.
One more question... does the knife-only warmup round count against/for your rank? That's some serious s**t if it does. :)

Probably a little late here, but I think the factor for the knife should be toned down a lot. The way it is now, you get 10 times the points for knifing that you would for about half the weapons listed there. On the gungame maps, it is -not- 10 times harder to get a knife kill than it is to get a kill with some of those guns. I'd say a 2.5 modifier would be about right, with the 5 modifier being on the grenade.

Agreed. That's one reason I frequent the server less. Not saying it was a bad idea to try, hell i thought it great to try out and thank rev for the hard work to figure it out, but I don't like it much anymore.

I was 14-4 on first map this morning, 36-10 on second and lost almost 400pts. and like 30 ranks, because it is always new people on when I play at 6:00am, it's very frustrating, because I thought I was owning some ass and all I did was kill my rank. :(

yes,..i agree with field,...even though i could care less about rank,..it suks, like bears says, when new people to our server play, and we get owned by them,..points and rank, dissapear. it's kinda nuts, and frustrating for those,"rank whores",..but still,..when people are not playing as much, cause the points are annoying them, then it's not just fun anymore. i love gungame,..and i would like everybody to enjoy it as much as they did, when they first played it!(this voids out people who hate gungame) this was my 2.5 cents, and thankyou for reading, and have a pleasant day!

that sounds like a great idea to me, because if we did that we wouldnt have people goin in saying "you suck your rank is 30 im rank 3!!" well guess what with our ranking points you can get really high easy but then if you get knifed a couple of times you lose 100 points so, its kind of dumb. i agree with rat :ba:ba

the ranks, no matter what, are pretty arbitrary, to some degree.
that's why i suggested ditching the ranks. what does your rank mean if, in the end, you don't win many games, but you're good at knifing kids...?
i mean, so what barry 'roidcase' bonds breaks the home run record... most of his homeruns come when his team either has a game already well in hand or they're irreverisbly behind in a game. most of his homers meant nothing in relation to the outcome of the games. so, whoopdeedoo... he has lots of homers... his team still sux. :)

I say that instead of doing the usual ranking system on CSS servers, where kills = points, the points should be based on the times you've won, so the person who has won the most gungame rounds would be rank 1, and so on.

but then you would have 1 guy with 49630476 wins and then the next highest will have like 70 then about 20 people with 1-30 wins then 700 people with no wins
so therefore the guys who blow cant compete.
ALSO, people will get on late at night and win over and over against bots

Most servers don't credit you for games vs. bots. Most allow credit once 4 unique players are on (that is... no bots).
Still, I say "ditch ranks." :D

for me, ranks add replay value to the game. Not for competeing against other people, more for competeing against myself, trying to do better then I have in the past. Now, unless there are fellow RS' online, I dont even play on the server simply because theres no difference when the game ends on this server vs any other

blink's got it right, in my opinion.
In my eye it's not so much a tool to compare myself with others, it's a standard to hold myself to. I think it helps me try to be better and advance my own playing.
i do like the idea of dumping the ranks every so often and starting over.
i personaly like the ranking system
